I ♥ alt.fashion
When I was a third year in college (because there are no juniors at the University of Chicago), I acquired a sudden taste for MAC lipstick, Chanel nail polish, and Stila eye shadow. Time I should have spent working on my senior thesis was spent instead on scamming generous samples of Kiehl’s products from the sales associates at Barney’s. While I had a few college pals who would come with me to Neiman Marcus to try on the Manolos, they were few and far between.
So when I stumbled across alt.fashion, I felt as though I had found my tribe. This newsgroup is my venue of choice for beauty and style-related discussion. I consider its contributors’ feedback on what to wear and where to wear to be invaluable, and chances are you will, too. The group is not moderated, but is pretty well managed by those long-time contributors who make sure that newcomers come correct with their posts and put out the flamewars almost before they begin. I don’t know if you’ll find a group of people more supportive in your pursuit of the perfect red lipstick — or comfortable slingbacks or flattering jeans — anywhere else.
