Meme-ded by the light (thanks, Poppy)

What is your earliest film-related memory?

Watching ET on Beta at my grandparents’ house in the Philippines. The tv was tiny, and mounted on a shelf high on the wall, next to a statue of the BVM.

Name two favorite lines from movies.

Okay, I’m glad that it’s “two favorite” as opposed to “the two best lines ever”, because that could take a while.

1. “No lady’s dangerous if you know how to handle her.” No, it’s not somebody like Fred MacMurray talking about Barbara Stanwyck or Lana Turner, it was the driver of the mambo taxi cab in Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios.

2. “I wanna hurt you, but I can’t resist the sinister attraction of your cold and muscular body.” “This is our year, I’m telling you. Best football season ever. I’m so in shape, I’m a rock. It’s all about egg whites. If we can focus, keep discipline, and not have quite so many mysterious deaths, Sunnydale is gonna *rule!*” That, in a nutshell, sums up so much of what my all-time favorite tv show, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, was about.

Name three jobs you’d do if you could not work in “The Biz.”

1. tech support
2. dog walker
3. technical writing

Name four jobs you have actually held outside the Industry.

1. operating ginormous slide collating machine at commercial photography lab
2. handing out fliers for New York nightlife impresarios Noel Ashman and Tony Theodore
3. model for math textbook
4. secretary

Name three book authors you like.

* Laurie Colwin
* Jilly Cooper
* Sue Townsend

Name two movies you’d like to remake or properties you’d like to adapt.

1. Mahogany — I’m actually working on a screenplay

2. I’d like to adapt Laurie Colwin’s novel Happy All The Time.

Name one screenwriter you think is underrated.

The men of Broken Lizard who wrote Super Troopers, one of my favorite movies.

  1. Jilly Cooper! I love Class almost more than life itself.

    In fact, my reaction to her name is summed up in the word verification string: “exzwhg” which clearly means “excited wheezing.”

  2. Thanks for playing along! Great Buffy quote. Good to see this spreading its wings and flying to new parts of the blogosphere!
