flip-flops for city schlepping
I have adored J. Crew ever since I could pronounce the word “grosgrain” properly. Though it’s been years since I could fit into even the largest women’s pima cotton tee they have to offer, I still rock the flip-flops like it was 1994 all over again and I’ve got some serious envy of that seemingly effortless, at times almost impossibly dull, WASP style often evoked in raw silk sundresses, rope bracelets, and worn-out Tretorns to wear around the Hamptons.
There’s something less WASP-y though no less refined about these fabric and grosgrain flip-flops. At once urbane and rustic, sophisticated and silly — I mean, who’d think of putting a beach scene on the soles of a pair of flip-flops? Who’d wear them? I would, and do — I can tell you from personal experience that these flip-flops in “Sand” (pictured) look lovely with a sheer black sleeveless tee and a circle skirt, and can be downright chic on a hot day in a dirty city.
