recent things i bought and happen to love

  • Chanel “Blanc Ceramic” nail polish: beautiful pearly white polish that makes me feel like I married the dictator of a Southeast Asian country.
  • upgrade to first class on United Airlines flight from Chicago to LAX: I spent 15,000 of my precious miles to sit in a comfy seat, eat breakfast, and drink water out of a real glass. An early birthday present to me — the only thing I can think of to complain about is that we made good time, so my time in fancyland was cut short by about 30 minutes.
  • $5 freshwater pearl earrings from some cart on the 3rd street promenade in Santa Monica: I bought two pairs, one white and one pink, which I call “Blush” and “Bashful” because I am secretly a fan of “Steel Magnolias”
  • Hotel Reversible Terry White Shower Curtain: when I got back from L.A., I had no place to sleep, as the old apartment was demolished, and the new apartment had no furniture (my bed was under a tarp in the old place). I spent two nights in a hotel (thanks,, for cheap rates!), where I was spoiled by the excellent water pressure. I bought this shower curtain for the new apartment, which I’ve decided to decorate like it’s a fancy hotel room. To that end, I suspect I might need some more hotel stays for “research”. Of course, at dinner tonight, all of my responsible homeowning friends were talking about meeting with financial consultants so maybe I shouldn’t be buying a fancy shower curtain? Oh but where’s the fun in that?
  • medium yogurt from Pinkberry: So good, though the topping combination I picked — chocolate chips, granola, banana — was a bit dry. The next time I am in L.A. or New York, I will go for pineapple (do they have pineapple?), strawberries, and blackberries.
